About Boggl Tkes
A community built around the joy of making music and the dedication to helping every student find their voice.
Our Story
Boggl Tkes began in 2011 when three music teachers recognized a gap in how instrumental education was being delivered. Too many students were dropping out after a year or two, not because they lacked talent or interest, but because standardized teaching methods weren't connecting with how they learned.
We started with a single room and five students, building a different approach. Instead of forcing everyone through identical lesson plans, we listened to what excited each learner and shaped instruction around that enthusiasm. A student who wanted to play video game soundtracks received just as much support as one preparing for classical examinations.
Fifteen years later, we've grown to a team of eight instructors working with students from age five to seventy-five. What hasn't changed is our core belief that music education should adapt to the student, not the other way around.
What Guides Our Work
Individual Progress Over Comparison
Every student develops at their own pace. We measure success by how far you've come, not how you compare to others at similar stages.
Musical Joy Sustains Practice
Technique matters, but if lessons feel like drudgery, students won't stick with it. We balance skill development with pieces you're genuinely excited to play.
Respect for Every Musical Goal
Whether you aim to perform professionally, play in a local ensemble, or simply enjoy music at home, your aspiration deserves serious support.
Transparency About Challenges
We're honest about what different instruments require and how long various skills take to develop. Realistic expectations prevent discouragement.
Our Instructors
Our teaching team brings diverse backgrounds in performance, composition, and music education. Several are active performers who understand what it takes to play confidently in front of others. Others have specialized in pedagogy, studying how people of different ages absorb musical concepts most effectively.
What they share is genuine enthusiasm for watching students progress and the patience to work through inevitable frustrations. Teaching music well requires reading when someone needs encouragement, when they need a challenge, and when they need a completely different explanation of the same concept.
All our instructors hold enhanced background checks and maintain professional development through workshops and teaching conferences.
How We Teach
Assessment Without Pressure
We track progress through regular observation rather than rigid testing. This gives us clear information about where to focus next without creating anxiety around evaluations.
Repertoire That Motivates
Students learn faster when they care about the music they're practicing. We incorporate pieces that resonate with your tastes while gradually introducing new styles that expand your range.
Technical Foundation
Proper technique prevents injury and opens up more advanced playing. We build these fundamentals through exercises that feel purposeful rather than repetitive.
Music Theory Integration
Understanding why music works the way it does makes you a more independent musician. We weave theory into lessons as it becomes relevant to what you're playing.
Key Milestones
Foundation
Opened with three founding teachers and a focus on piano and guitar instruction.
Expansion
Added drums, violin, and voice to our offerings as student demand grew.
New Location
Moved to larger premises with dedicated practice rooms and a performance space.
Adaptation
Successfully transitioned to hybrid teaching model during challenging circumstances.
Community Growth
Launched student ensemble program and quarterly recital series.
Student Safety and Wellbeing
All instructors undergo enhanced DBS background checks before teaching. Our facilities include transparent teaching spaces where lessons are visible to others in the building.
We maintain comprehensive insurance coverage and follow safeguarding policies developed in consultation with education professionals. Parents of younger students receive regular progress updates and are welcome to observe lessons.
For adult learners, we ensure a respectful environment where questions are encouraged and learning challenges are met with understanding rather than judgment.
Beyond Individual Lessons
While one-on-one instruction forms the core of what we offer, music is ultimately a social experience. We organize quarterly recitals where students can share their progress in a supportive setting. These aren't formal concerts with pressure to perform perfectly - they're opportunities to experience what it feels like to play for others.
We also facilitate small ensemble groups for students interested in collaborative music-making. Playing with others develops listening skills and timing in ways that solo practice cannot.
Throughout the year, we host informal gatherings where students and their families can connect with others who share an interest in music.
Experience the Difference
We'd be happy to discuss how our approach might work for you or your child.
